How to trace Scottish ancestors

Findmypast have a number of Scottish records onsite, including censuses, parish registers and military records. You can find all of our Scottish records by clicking 'Search' from the top of the page and selecting 'A-Z of record sets' - then choose Scotland from the left hand side.

We also have millions of Scottish newspapers displayed there and many of our customers researching their Scottish ancestors have found them to be an invaluable resource. You can view our newspaper collection by clicking 'Search' and selecting 'Newspapers & Periodicals'

However, the National Records of Scotland (formerly known as GROS) do not permit access to the original Scottish BMD's images on any website and as the records are licensed to them, that is their decision and one which we must respect.

As such, you will not find any civil birth, marriage or death records on Findmypast.
