Discover more about Queensland Naturalisations 1851-1904
The Queensland Naturalisations 1851-1904 index was compiled from various records created by the Supreme Court of the Brisbane, Rockhampton and Townsville districts, the Colonial Secretary’s Office and the Government Residents Office.
These records included correspondence, naturalisation files, certificates of naturalisation and associated papers, and oaths of allegiance that were sworn by ‘aliens’ who were in the process of being naturalised.
They contain the names of individuals who took oaths of allegiance in order to be naturalised as British subjects under the Queensland colony’s Aliens Act 1867. This legislation was later replaced when the Commonwealth Naturalisation Act 1903 came into force on 1 January 1904.
Details listed about the immigrants who were naturalised include their full name, the number of the oath they took, their trade or profession, and the date when they enrolled.
When searching the index, remember to check all possible spelling variations and keep in mind that all first names are abbreviated as they appeared in the original records.
