In memory of my late father, Kenneth Rowley Day who served with the Australian Imperial Forces during World War II and who passed away on 23rd June 2012 aged 93 years. The poems and anecdotes were written by my father.

Kenneth Rowley Day, service No.NX58426 served with the Militia from 4th September 1939 to 21st July 1940 then with the Australian Imperial Forces from 22nd July 1940 to 13th November 1945.

His principal units were 1st Division Signals, 8th Division Signals, 9th Division Signals and 2/12 Australian Field Regiment Signals Section.

He saw operational service in the Middle East from 26th December 1940 to 27th February 1943, New Guinea from 1st August 1943 to 7th March 1944 and Morotai/Borneo 26th April 1945 to 30th October 1945.

Dad was a proud "Rat of Tobruk" and was present on the island of Morotai during the signing of the surrender of the 2nd Japanese Army to General Blamey.
