The Yorkshire Collection

We are thrilled to be working with family history societies and archives throughout Yorkshire to bring you the Yorkshire Collection.

The Yorkshire Collection includes the records of six Yorkshire archives which provide a rich source of genealogical source material stretching back to the 16th Century. In this first phase of records we have a wealth of parish records that can provide details not just of your ancestor but also, in some cases, their immediate family. Cemetery records can provide even more insight.

When the second phase of records arrive next year we will be adding exciting social history records that will bring you beyond the main life events to show you how your ancestors lived, especially in the 19th century. The Yorkshire Collection also includes a rare survival of the 1831 British Census covering the township of Nether Hallam in Sheffield.

Vital records

The Yorkshire Collection showcases a range of vital records including baptisms, banns and marriages.

Parish Registers and Bishop's Transcripts

Bishop’s transcripts were abbreviated copies of the parish records sent to the Diocesan bishop several times a year. They can be an invaluable source of genealogical information when the original record has not survived.

Cemetery and burial records

Also included in this collection is an array of burial and cremation records, monumental inscriptions and cemetery records. If your ancestor was buried in Yorkshire, this collection could prove to a be a vital resource in your family history research.

Marriage License Index and 1831 census

The Yorkshire, Archbishop of York Marriage Licenses Index allows you to discover your ancestors who made applications for marriage licences in the diocese of York, England, between 1613 and 1839. You may be able to discover your relative’s age when they applied for their marriage licence, their parish, and their spouse’s age and parish.

You can also search for your Yorkshire based ancestors in a rare survival of the 1831 British census covering the township of Nether Hallam in Sheffield.
