Wicklow People is still in circulation today as a weekly tabloid. Historically, the paper covered local news on a wide range of topics including politics, commerce, agriculture, and mining. Despite being a local paper from County Wicklow, its audience extended into the surrounding counties of Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, and beyond. You can discover more about issues of local interest and concern in the pages of Wicklow People, such as the hotly debated issue of Home Rule for Ireland.

County Wicklow received its name from the town of Wicklow, which is its county town. Wicklow was the last of the 32 counties of Ireland to be formed. Located on the east coast of the Republic of Ireland, Wicklow is bordered by Wexford, Carlow, Kildare, and Dublin counties.

J M Walsh was the proprietor of Wicklow People and its sister publication Wexford People, which started its run in 1853. Wicklow People was established in 1882 and was advertised as being one of the Wexford People series.
