Why have I been given a username?

Your username identifies you on the site. It is used to build your unique user profile and will soon be publicly shareable to other users.

We automatically generate your username using your first and last name, but you have the option to change this if you’d like.

In the near future, you’ll be able to send private messages to other users with your username. It will also be used to identify you as the owner of a family tree on our site.
