The address “Facts about Ulster” was delivered to the Scotch-Irish Society in America at the society’s third congress in Louisville, Kentucky from May 14-17, 1891. The Scotch-Irish Society was formed in 1899 to preserve and promote the history and culture of the Ulster Scots people who migrated to America from the northern province of Ireland. Ulster Scots is a term used to refer to the descendants of Scottish people, mostly Presbyterian, who migrated to Ireland in the 1600s. When those descendants migrated further to North America the term ‘Scotch-Irish’ was used.
The address was delivered by Reverend John Hall. DD., L.L.D. a minister of the Irish Presbyterian Church. Hall was born in Armagh and later resided in America. During his life he travelled back and forth from America to Ireland. He became a prominent member within the Scotch-Irish Society.
