Salisbury Infirmary was founded by public subscription in 1766 and opened to patients in May 1767. The
Infirmary was administered by a court of governors until 1948, when it became part of the NHS, and closed in 1992. The records in this dataset are drawn from the minutes of the Infirmary’s weekly Court of
Governors and Management Committee meetings covering the period 1767 to 1832. They show the names of inpatients and outpatients admitted to and discharged from the infirmary during the week preceding the meeting. The ages of patients, their place of residence, and the nature of their medical conditions are all infrequently recorded, but notes about the reason for the patient's discharge (for example “cured” or “dead”) are more common.”
