This index has been compiled by the Sussex Family History Society from the indexes which were prepared for the Suffolk Archives from bundles of papers which are the records of the Coroners' Inquests for the Liberty of St Etheldreda, 1767-1921. The bundle for the year 1855 is missing.

The Liberty formerly belonged to the Prior and Convent of Ely, which in 1541 were changed into Dean and Chapter. The area covered by the Liberty is shown on the map. The Suffolk Archives at Ipswich holds the records of coroners' inquests held in the Liberty of St Etheldreda for the period 1767-1936.

The index includes a reference to the inquest record in the Suffolk Archive so if you find an entry of interest you can follow up and read the whole report which includes a lengthy and interesting description of the inquest report.
