What can these records tell me?

These records have been provided by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and include images from a variety of sources. The records range from the 1600s to the 1900s. Each result included in this collection will have both a transcript and an image of the source document. Transcripts will often include the following information:

    • First name(s)
    • Last name
    • Year
    • Event date
    • Address
    • Parish
    • Diocese
    • State

The images may offer additional insight into your both your ancestor and the church they attended. This may include lists of past ministers and those baptized and confirmed, as well as church histories. The lists of confirmations and communicants may also provide the names of parents and spouses.

For example, in a section of abstracts from the family registers of the Lutheran members in the church book from the Lutheran and Reformed Union Congregation of Lower Bermudian, Adams County, we read the following: "Nicolaus Detter born 1712 December 20, baptized December 21. Father Matthias Detter of Hirschland in Franconia, and mother Margretha. Married 1737 February Anna Catharina – born 1705 […] father Matthias Baumann and mother Margretha of Hirschland. Came to America in 1749. Have 5 children: (1) Matthias born 1732 in October on Matthias Day von Jacob Detter. (2) Johan Michel born 1737 April 1. Died within a year. (3) Andreas born 1741. Died at the age of a half year. (4) Catharina born 1743. Died when she was a fourth of a year old. (5) Lorentz born 1747 October 17 and baptized the same day."
