Nourish your Norfolk roots with new and exclusive records

Explore 300,000 new records across two collections.

If you suspect you have roots in the county of Norfolk, this is a release you won't want to miss.

This brand-new collection comprises over 257,000 records and spans 1301-1858, covering an incredible 557 years of history.

From the Archdeaconry of Norfolk, these records cover 14 Deaneries:

  • Blofield
  • Breccles
  • Brisley
  • Flegg (including Greater Yarmouth)
  • Holt
  • Ingworth
  • Lynn (including King's Lynn)
  • Lynn Marshland
  • Norwich
  • Sparham
  • Taverham
  • Thetford
  • Toftrees
  • Walsingham

In them, you'll find information such as name, year, residence, and title - which will often include their occupation and birthplace.

We've added over 65,000 records to this collection between 1702-1923.

These records offer vital information on your ancestor's marriage such as the year, parish, spouse's name, and often the father's name. This means you could uncover multiple generations with just one record.

In a Findmypast first, we've added four brand-new titles this week that were all published in Africa.

The Uganda Herald, 1940.

The Uganda Herald, 1940.

Though both the Uganda Herald and the East African Standard focused on local news such as sporting fixtures, schooling and theatre, the former had a tendency to publish British correspondence, and the latter more international headlines.

With both Uganda and Kenya being British colonies at the time of publication, these titles stood patriotic to White colonists during these years. However, the East African Standard became more balanced towards Ugandan independence from Britain in 1962.

The Natal Mercury, 1878.

Our two new South African titles, the Natal Mercury and the Natal Witness, follow a similar vein. Both were again founded by White colonists, though the former documented news within South African colonies and the latter was more anti-imperialist in its views. These papers are considered to be some of the oldest in South Africa, and still run today.

Amongst our other new and updated titles, you'll find two from Ireland and a specialist Catholic title. To search a specific paper, just head to our newspaper archive and filter by title.
