Oxfordshire Family History Society

Oxfordshire Family History Society was founded in 1976 to encourage and promote the study of family history. The society caters for those with Oxfordshire ancestry and those who live locally but with ancestors from elsewhere.

The main aims of the society are to foster interest in family history, and aid the progress of beginners; to provide, through publications and meetings, a means for exchanging news and information; to widen knowledge of the variety of genealogically useful records; to help preserve the most commonly used records by transcription, indexing and publication; to record fast disappearing monumental inscriptions.

Meetings are held both in Exeter Hall, Kidlington and on-line via ZOOM throughout the year. The society's AGM is normally held in June with a Family History Fair held in the Autumn.

The society runs an active and responsive help-desk service alongside face-to-face advisor sessions in numerous libraries around the county and in the Oxfordshire History Centre. The advisors cover a wide area of expertise (not just in Oxfordshire records).

The Oxfordshire Family Historian, which is published three times per year, enables members at home and further afield to enjoy general articles on family and local history, general genealogical information, events and activities of the society.

The society's website contains access to free resources and a member’s area where members are encouraged to submit their own stories.

Resources such as Parish Register and Monumental Inscription transcriptions are sold as CDs or downloads through the shop on the website.

The Society is a Registered Charity, No. 275891, and a member of the Federation of Family History Societies.

The Oxfordshire Family History Society contributed to the National Burial Index For England & Wales. These records are available as part of Findmypast's Plus and Pro subscriptions.
