Fenland Family History Society

Welcome to the Fenland Family History Society, based at Wisbech, in the centre of the Fenland area. The Fenland comprises the former Isle of Ely, parts of South Lincolnshire and West Norfolk.

The Fenland Family History Society was founded in 2001 to promote and encourage the study of family, local and social history with particular reference to persons having lived in, or having been associated with, the historical area now known as Fenland. We have a strong membership from all parts of the UK as well as Canada, USA, Australia and other parts of the globe.

The society also aims to promote and encourage the preservation, security and accessibility of archival material. We have a strong working relationship with the Wisbech and Fenland Museum, and with Wisbech Library where we man the Family History Room on two days each month.

Our meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month (except August and December) in Wisbech where we are available to give general help and hold discussions. Refreshments are available at the end of the evening. Also available are the library and bookstall, and a help table for members with any research problems. We have a full and interesting programme of speakers on a variety of subjects connected with family and local history research, and visits to places of historical interest are also arranged.

We hold a Family History Day annually and this event have proved very popular with both members and other family history societies.

Our journal, the 'Ag. Lab. Chronicles' is posted to all members, and contain reports of meetings, articles from members, book reviews, bookstall publications available for purchase, and extracts from 'Star in the East'.

We are a member of the Federation of Family History Societies, and promote their aims to help and encourage those who share the same interests as we do.

More details on membership, meetings, and general assistance can be found on our website.

The Fenland Family History Society contributed to the Cambridgeshire Burials and the National Burial Index. These records are available as part of the Findmypast Plus or Pro subscription.
