Private James Carter Potts died at the age of 26 on April 1917. He was the son of William Carter and Emma Potts, born in South Australia He is remembered with honour at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. There is no grave for him.

He had a brother who also fought in the war; he was Lt Alfred Earnest Potts MM, 12th Bn.

What I know is, he embarked Fremantle 10th of October 1016 and disembarked Plymouth, England 2nd of December 1916. He proceeded overseas to France 16th of January 1917. Taken on strength, 16th Bn. in the field, 21st of January 1917.

He was admitted to 13th Field Ambulance 30th of January 1917 (Parotitis) and transferred to 38th Casualty Clearing Station on to 14th Stationary Hospital 1st of February 1917 (Mumps) to 1st Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 13th of February 1917 and discharged to 4th Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 23rd of February 1917.

I believe he was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and again to the leg and also the head later on.

He was killed in action.

He was awarded the British War Medal, The Star and the Victory Medal.
