Find your ancestors in Yorkshire Archaeological Society

Yorkshire Archaeological Society

The Family History Section of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society was established in 1973 to cover the particular interests and needs of family historians who wished to research ancestors in the huge county of Yorkshire. Membership to date is approximately 1,300.

The Society holds regular monthly meetings in the Lecture Room, Claremont, Leeds with a variety of speakers on mainly family and local history topics. It offers regular drop-in sessions for family historians in its Library on Tuesdays and also runs day schools from time to time. The quarterly journal “The Yorkshire Family Historian” enables members at home and further afield to enjoy general articles on family history, learn more about the area of their ancestors, be kept up to date with events and all the services that the society offers, and have their personal family history interests published.

Available on the excellent website are details of the Society’s research services, the large range of publications which can also be bought online, and information on how to join the society.

YAS (Family History Section) is a registered charity (no 224083), is a member of the Yorkshire Regional Group of Family History Societies, and is a long-standing member of the Federation of Family History Societies.

The society contributed to the National Burial Index For England & Wales. These records are available as part of a Findmypast Plus and Pro subscription.
